Speech writing

It is perfectly possible to construct a decent speech on behalf of someone. But, alas, the commissioning  a professional or at least a master of the word to produce a 'good' speech, the result thus achieved  can greatly exceed the actual capabilities of the speaker. In other words, the good speech 'on paper' can become a disaster when delivered.
Whoever does so called 'ghost-writing', has to be not only the one you rely fully, but also the one, who has studied your personal style and knows your pace, abilities to deliver rhetoric figures properly and feel at home with them. Simple pre-reading of the speech before delivery, all too often will not do the trick.

As a matter of curiosity it can be said here that Warren Harding appears to be the first US president by some account to put a ghost-writer on the official payroll.  But it was not before Franklin D. Roosevelt that the actual functions of a person hired for ghost-writing were revealed in any way.

Sometimes in fact, it is not a bad idea at all if public's attention is heightened on intent with careful revelation that this or that public person has been invited to participate in making a speech that is to be delivered. Usually we speak of a highly acclaimed writer, scientist or someone who is loved or celebrated for his or her history on the given subject. No doubts this shall be exercised on rare and outstanding events only. But one can imagine, e.g., a head of the State readying to deliver a speech, perhaps an address to another nation on a sensitive subject of shared history; it might be wise to spread a word that what is going to be said is not only the words of State's highest representative or an undisclosed team, but of someone or even a number of persons whose words do matter in this particular respect.

To close the brief introductory matter on speech-writing it would suffice to add that best speeches are produced in cooperation instead of writing for someone. And sometimes it is not the actual speech that is needed, but rather a 'skeleton' or a draft of a speech and a trustworthy research file on subject. Thus equipped a person who asks for the service, will produce truly unique product than can later be discussed, refined and finally - successfully delivered.
